Thirty years ago, Doug Wilson wrote Recovering the Lost Tools of Learning so that Christian parents could stop wringing their hands at the deterioration of American education and actually do something to resist it.

Look Inside the Book or Listen on Canon+

That resistance begins with getting our children out of public secular schools, but it doesn't end there. We must also give our kids a thoroughly biblical education with the lordship of Jesus Christ at the center. The best structure for that education, Wilson argues, is the classical structure.

And so the classical Christian education movement in America was born. Since the publication of this book, hundreds of classical Christian schools have been started (both nationally and internationally), and hundreds of thousands of homeschooling families have turned to classical Christian education as well.

Recovering the Lost Tools of Learning, originally published by Crossway in 1991, has been republished by Canon Press.

What People Are Saying:

"Good at diagnosing our educational afflictions, Douglas Wilson is still better at finding remedies. His Logos School provides a model, a practical design, for the restoration in the curriculum of Christian humanism—as contrasted with what Christopher Dawson called secular humanism." -Russell Kirk, author of The Conservative Mind

"A funny thing happened as the 20th century came to a close. A number of Christians began to form what were being called “classical and Christian” schools. Believers who would have been (or were) involved in their local traditional Christian school or public school were suddenly making the case for Latin, reading the great books of the Western intellectual tradition, and talking about the traditional liberal arts—-the trivium and the quadrivium. Many in this growing movement of Christian and classical schools in recent decades would cite as inspiration a book by Douglas Wilson, Recovering the Lost Tools of Learning" -Bradley Green, The Gospel Coalition

Douglas Wilson has been the pastor for Christ Church for over forty years and is a father of three and grandfather of seventeen. He has helped found many educational institutions such as New Saint Andrews College, Logos School, and Greyfriars Hall. He has written other books on education, such as The Case for Classical Christian Education, Excused Absence, and The Paideia of God.

Fantastic Dog Toy!!!
Color: Purple
This is a great toy!!! My dog has lots of toys. But one of the problems is he has trouble getting the squeaker to squeak. He's an 18 lb terrier mix, and those squeakers are just elusive. Breaks my heart. This one, though, the squeakers (there are two) are in small areas (head and tail), that are easy for him to get his whole mouth around and squeak. They also don't move, which also makes them easy to squeak. So he's been squeaking up a storm since he got this! Other plusses: * The material is great (soft, furry material, that seems to be of good quality). * The toy expands and contracts, which is fun. * It's pleasant to look at. All in all, I'd say this is one of the best dog toys I've ever bought for my dog. Highly recommended!

Great Toy in Spite of Everything.
Color: Purple
My dog is a border collie. She loves chewing, fetching, tug of war and catch. The first day we had this toy she chewed off two of the feet. I didn't give it much of a life span. Two weeks later she chewed off a third foot. Miraculously no stuffing was exposed. It has now been a month and the toy is still going strong, albeit with one foot! She loves it. It is now June 1st. It has been almost three months and I am retiring the toy. It no longer has any feet and the tail has been ripped open and stuffing is coming out. All in all I think I got my money's worth from this toy. I ordered another one. She still loves it!

Awesome, but not the best squeakers.
Color: Purple
I bought the orange gecko for my 5-month-old Corgi puppy. He absolutely loves it. He came up with a "game" (sort of) where if I pick it up and start squeaking one of the ends/squeakers really quickly over and over, he'll grab the other end/squeaker and start doing the same thing with me. It was really cute until one of the squeakers stopped working about a week after I bought it... but I guess the toy wasn't too expensive, and he doesn't really seem to mind that one of the squeakers doesn't work anymore. I might buy another next time I do an Amazon order (so I can get the free shipping) and see if it lasts a little longer.

Great Toy For a Great Price
Color: Purple
My Aussie loves toys and plays with them as though she is a small child. She has a basket and will go to the basket and dig through it until she finds what she is looking for. Lately she has been using the bungee gecko as her toy of choice. She gets bored easily and will rip the stuffing out of most toys, the fact that this one has lasted 6 weeks or so is impressive with no rips, holes or missing limbs. Her favorite way to play is to come over to me and nudge me to play tug of war and we have broke many toys this way but so far we can play tug a war several minutes at a time and the gecko is still in one piece. For the price which is considerable less than some of her other toys I have already ordered a couple of replacements for the future. This is a great well built dog toy that has has a lot of give and can be stretched without ripping.
